December 2008 ~ The Gifts

December 2008
The Gifts

As we continue to celebrate the season I thought I would share another one of the inspired conversations I have had with many people over the years. For me, this one insight has relieved me of many issues only to resurface when I have lost my way in the storm.

We all do it from time to time~ some more than others. We have reasons, excuses, conclusions about one another, gossip, destructive thoughts, actions, “prayers”...you name it ~ we’ve done it!

What might be so powerful that we exert upon another and for some of us even more harshly upon ourselves? You may have considered several options that would deserve this recognition but I want to focus on one area that I have found to be quite effective. The weapon I speak of is judgment. Yes, as I said earlier, there are many reasons as to why we do it however I am speaking directly to the judgment that resonates within our ego. Because someone is too fat or short, too old or sickly, they have cancer or MS or they believe in another religion or their skin is a different color ~ why do we do this to each other? The question I would rather address is “why do we do it to ourselves?”

Judgment comes in many forms though no matter how we disguise it we must acknowledge that there are also consequences to doing so. When you judge another experience the thought you are having inside of you…”wow, I feel important, I feel smart, I feel better about myself now.” Now notice your feelings inside while you are judging. Do they correspond with the thoughts or are there feelings that are separate from the action and thought? If you are interested in reading more about this process I encourage you to read Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav however, for the sake of time and convenience, I want to share with you an approach to consider when you are struggling with the weight of judgment.

I have noticed in myself and observed in others that when we judge there seems to be an immediate effect or consequence. The response comes more noticeably in the forms of frustration, guilt, shame, worry, envy, jealousy, doubt, etc. however for simplicity, let’s call these reactions by its’ nickname of fear. And, because of fear, we feel some type and level of discomfort, or pain.

How do we attempt to deal with this pain? Since we are still humans I suggest that you attempt to reduce your exercise of judging by ten percent. It may not sound like a lot but the benefits will be noticeable each and every day you approach your life with this new insight.

Take a look around in your life. How do you judge another ~ how do you judge yourself? How do you compare, or rate, or match up ~ how do they?

In this competitive society many of us see through the eyes of ego and less and less through the eyes of our soul. No wonder we remain stuck with the feeling that no one cares for us, no one understand us, no one knows how we feel or even matters if we are alive.

Notice how we take things more personally when we judge then we do not judge.

Let’s see with what tools or weapons you are using to paint your life. Is it a life filled with judgment even if it is part of the time? If so, maybe you will find that you are separating yourself from others and not sharing in the concept that we are all One. If you choose to judge less (just 10 %!) you will see the beautiful gifts that will be bestowed upon you as you listen less to your ego and move more in the direction of your soul.

You may ask what gifts will I receive…well, that is for you to find out for yourself ~ that is one of the reasons for this journey. Are you on board?

I want you to know that each month I write this newsletter it is my gift to you that may assist you or a friend wherever you may be in your life right now. I realize that each and every newsletter may not apply to your life today however I want to provide you with my insights as I travel this journey with you in some small (or not so small) way.

Thank you for taking the time to share these thoughts with me!
